Actress Zoe Saldaña made her first public remark in response to the issue involving her co-star Karla Sofía Gascón from Emilia Perez. She said she was saddened and disappointed by the recent disclosure of Gascon’s previous racist tweets. The Hollywood Reporter said that Zoe revealed her response to the event at a Friday Q&A session in London, calling it “really sad” and highlighting her opposition to prejudice.
A response to a query concerning the matter was, “I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad.” The actor is a nominee for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
According to the publication, her remarks were made during an event that Gascon was supposed to attend but did not. She added, “It makes me extremely disappointed because I don’t support (it), and I don’t have any patience for any negative rhetoric against people of any group.”
She also used the occasion to consider her personal experience collaborating with the Emilia Perez cast and crew, pointing out that the project was founded on the principles of cooperation and inclusivity.
“I can only confirm to the experience that I had with all of the people that was a part, that constitutes a part, of this film,” Zoe stated. “My encounters and experiences with them focused on racial, cultural, and gender equity as well as inclusivity and teamwork. And it simply makes me sad,” the publication said.
Zoe stated that she stayed focused on the movie’s overall message in spite of the uproar. “The fact that we are currently facing this setback worries me. “But I’m glad everybody is here and that you’re all still showing up for Emilia,” she continued, alluding to the film’s potent ability to draw attention to problems that underprivileged communities face.
She concluded by restating her conviction that the film’s message is crucial, saying, “This film’s message is so strong, and the shift that it can bring forward to groups that suffer from exclusion every day of the year is important.” And all I can say is that we all gathered to share this tale because we were curious, respectful, and in love, and we will keep spreading that message.”
